Ten Mile Lake, in Hackensack MN. A place of memories for our family when our children were young. Meanwhile, for a school assignment my son had to do a nature poem. As a result, he wanted to write about the lake he loved as a young boy.
Despite the fact, we had lost it all when tragedy hit our family and he almost lost his dad. The memories were fonder than the loss. In fact, many relationships were formed. To this day we still keep in touch with the families we meet over the years.
Best of all were the memories made within our own family. Lots of great fishing, boating and campfires were had. Like this one time. OMG! We just bought a new boat. A Nice new fishing boat. However, I had just had surgery and was unable to go out on the boat. Considering what I am about to tell you. That was for the best.
All of a sudden my son came running up to the cabin yelling…Mom…Mom. Dad broke the boat. Needless to say, I was not happy. My husband was not familiar with the lake yet, as it was our first summer there. He had Hit what was called Devils Rock. In other words, flying over this stretch of rocks that separated the bay we were in with the main lake. Of course, he bent and broke the prop. The boat was only a few hours old. Nevertheless, it is a memory he will never live down.
Ten Mile Lake
Your girth is wide with hidden pores
We hear you ripple and roar
By day the sun may lead the way
By night the moon wants to play
At times you appear so calm
Gently with a whispering psalm
In a flash you rage and frown
Like the face upon a clown
Your lines both near and far mark a place in time
To set the guide for future mime
So not to lose the way you shine
In all the wonder what lies asunder
Your body filled with subaquatic wonder
A breathless growth of stupendous blunder
A feeding frenzy for all that lies with under
A beauty Oh so grounding
But the memories hold no boundary
You embrace all that tread upon
Holding true and brawn
